- Troubleshooting Guides: Ribbon is not required with direct thermal media. Remove ribbon unless you are using it to protect the printhead. This error message will not affect printing.

- Description: Print engine stops; MEDIA light ON, ERROR light flashes.
- Causes: Media is not loaded or is loaded incorrectly. Misadjusted media sensor. The print engine is set for noncontinuous media, but continuous media is loaded.
- Troubleshooting Guides: Load media correctly. Check position of the media sensor. Install proper media type, or reset print engine for current media type and perform calibration.

- Display: ERROR CONDITION HEAD OPEN
- Description: Print engine stops and ERROR light flashes.
- Causes: The head open sensor is not working properly.

- Display: WARNING HEAD TOO HOT
- Description: Print engine stops and ERROR light flashes.
- Causes: The printhead is over temperature. Caution • The printhead may be hot enough to cause severe burns. Allow the printhead to cool. Caution • Observe proper electrostatic safety precautions when handling any static-sensitive components such as circuit boards and printheads.

- Display: WARNING HEAD COLD

- Causes: The printhead is under temperature. The printhead data cable is not properly connected.

- Causes: Print engine using noncontinuous labels but configured in continuous mode. Incorrectly positioned media sensor. Improperly calibrated media sensor. The platen roller is dirty. Improper printhead pressure settings (toggles). Improperly loaded ribbon or media. Incompatible media.
- Troubleshooting Guides: Configure the print engine for non-continuous and run calibration routine, if necessary. Ensure the media sensor is properly positioned to read a single/consistent interlabel gap. See Calibrating Media and Ribbon Sensor Sensitivity on page 84. Clean the platen roller. Adjust the printhead pressure to ensure proper functionality. Verify that the ribbon and media are properly loaded. Ensure that the interlabel gaps or notches are 2 to 4 mm and consistently placed. Media must not exceed minimum specifications for mode of operation.

- Description: A label format was sent to the print engine but was not recognized. The DATA light does not flash.
- Causes: The communication parameters are incorrect.
- Troubleshooting Guides: Check the print engine driver or software communications settings (if applicable). If you are using serial communication, check the serial port setting in the front panel menu. Make sure you are using the correct communication cable. Using the front panel controls, check the protocol setting. It should be set to NONE. See Set Protocol on page 71. If a driver is used, check the driver communication settings for your connection.

- Description: A label format was sent to the print engine. Several labels print, then the print engine skips, misplaces, misses, or distorts the image on the label.
- Causes: The serial communication settings are incorrect.
